Make brushing a happy time for your kitty! Choose a brush, such as a soft slicker brush, that is comfortable against his skin. Give him lots of treats during the process. Make each grooming session short with lots of breaks. Once you've mastered the art of brushing, try using a metal grooming comb. This comb will remove shedding hair gently and help your cat to avoid mats and tangles developing in his coat.
If your cat has developed a mat, you can remove it by gently brushing the edges of the mat. If this doesn't remove the mat, take a metal comb and use one tine to separate a few hairs at the edge of the mat. Gently pull these hairs so that they come loose from the mat. Then separate a few more and pull them, then a few more, etc. Before you know it, you'll be able to comb that mat out! If the mat is stubborn or close to the skin, it may be necessary to have a groomer remove it with clippers. NEVER use scissors to remove a mat! Many cats have serious wounds from owners attempting to cut out mats with scissors.
Cats' nails should be trimmed regularly, either by a professional groomer or at home. Call us for an appointment to have them trimmed or try it at home. Information on how to trim a cat's nails can be found by clicking the button below.
Cats' ears produce wax naturally and should be cleaned periodically. Use ear cleaner that is specifically formulated for cats. Dampen a cotton ball with the ear cleaner and wipe out the folds of the ear. Do not squirt ear cleaner in to the canal and do not dig around in the ear. Cats' ears are delicate instruments that should be treated gently.
